site wide rules;
Still have questions? Check here!
Prior to joining Concept of Breathing, it would be greatly appreciated if you read over our rules. We're not asking you to be able to spit them out on command, but being familiar with them so that you don't accidentally break a rule is why it is asked of you to read them. The password for character biographies is hidden some where in the rules, so be sure to hunt for that too!
( general )
001. First and foremost, let's touch behavior. Be polite, be respectful. To be blunt about it, don't be a douche. Not that hard right? Right. There are two simple sayings, that I'm sure we've probably all heard at one point or another, that work quite well here. 'If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all,' and 'treat others the way you want to be treated.' Follow those, and really everything should be fine and dandy!
002. Granted, Concept of Breathing is a site with some mature content, but do try to keep out-of-character content under control. No degrading or prejudiced comments on anything. No nudity, sex-references, drug-references in anything out of character. Basically, nothing that would go against the TOS of Proboards. Swearing is fine, but if it gets too out of hand a filter will be put up.
003. This should have to be said, but just so that no one can claim that they didn't know... We do require that you have a reasonable grasp on grammar, spelling, and the English language in general. We're a literate, to advanced site. Mistakes are understandable, we're human after all, we're utterly imperfect. But try to catch them. Proof read, proof read, proof read! Type things up on a program such as pages or word, or some other program, since it will catch mistakes you don't.
004. To fit with the rule above, type like you actually know how to speak. Don't go around using chat-speak. or anything of the sort. Simple, normal English. It's no harder to type out a word normally than it is to type a word out in some ridiculous fashion.
005. It should not have to be stated, but please do not steal. Make your own graphics, formatting, or whatever you need, or find someone to make it for you. If you do the later, be sure to credit them! Stealing can get a site shut down, and honestly it will not be tolerated on Concept of Breathing. Violators will be banned from the site.
006. No spamming, please. It's annoying, unattractive, and makes the site look messy, and cluttered. If you need to add or change something, put that modify button to use! That's what it's there for!
( accounts && profiles )
001. Please remember that Concept of Breathing works off a one account per character system. Usernames should be your character's name, and display names should be formatted as so:
century or CENTURY ( all lowercase for males, all caps for females. They should be your character's name ONLY. No symbols, or extra characters. They will be removed. )
002. All graphics on accounts should be character related. If they are not, they will be removed from the account.
003. Graphics should not stretch the boards. Chat-box avatars are 45 x 45. Profile avatars are 160 x 200. Signatures should be no larger than 500 x 500. Graphics should be no wider than 500 pixels, or else they will stretch the board. Images found stretching the board will be removed without warning.
004. Out-of-character names should be located in your profile. You can format them any way you wish, just so long as they are there.
005. Profile genders should be the same as your character. Even if you are female, and your character is male, the account gender should be set to male.
006. Please log into all of your accounts at least three times a week. Failure to do so will get that account placed as inactive after three weeks, if you have not posted a reason as to why you are not logging in.
( characters && character biographies )
001. Concept of Breathing is a realistic site. Appearances should not be 'fantasy', or unreal. We expect you to know how your character's species would behave on the streets of a small town. Granted, we all want the big sturdy males, and the petite, beautiful females... But let's be honest. That isn't going to happen naturally. Characters are expected to be skinny, and rough looking. A dog that's spent their entire life on the streets with out humans, even in a pack wouldn't look to great. Mats, and missing fur, scars and the like would be expected. Now, don't go over board with it... But if you need a good mental image, look up photos of stray dogs, or photos of your character's species in the wild.
002. Mutations such as albinism are rare. Remember that they are not hereditary, and occur at random. Again, they are extremely rare, and even more so for animals that do not depend on humans for food. A prey animal would see a white predator coming from miles away except in winter. Characters with mutations like albinism are expected to be harder off than others, unless they are part of a pack. The same is true for characters with problems such as missing limbs, or other handicapping physical deformities. Remember that albino characters will need to be purchased; they are not free.
003. It seems to be a trend to make your character's history a complete and total sob story. That's all fine and dandy if that's what you really want to do, but you have to take into consideration as to how that will shape your character. Chances are if your character has been abused, they're not going to be the most trusting individual, or the most happy-go-lucky individual. The password is bluegrass. Remember that when making your characters. Always think as to how their histories will shape their personalities, and on some occasions physical appearances.
004. No perfect characters. They're annoying, and improbable. Perfection is not going to happen in a realistic character. They always have some sort of flaw, some kind of thing that makes them different and makes life a little harder for them, such as an illness, or a handicap.
005. Unusual markings, coloration in fur or eyes are not allowed. You just wouldn't see a dog with neon pink eyes or markings. Jewelry, collars, and the like are not allowed either, though they can be purchased, and it must be explained in detail in the character's history how they came to have such a thing.
006. You are allowed to have as many characters as you like. We recommend having no more than six, but if you really want to be that one person with twenty characters, go right ahead. With this freedom though, you are expected to keep them all active! If we find people making characters and letting them fall inactive, and it becomes a habit, a character limit will be put into place.
007. No God-modeled characters, and no power-playing.
008. Make your characters original, and your character. Don't make cut-out characters! You've got an imagination and creativity, use it.
009. After posting a work-in-progress biography you will have ten days to complete it. Afterwards, it will be placed in a personal message and sent to you.
010. Characters cannot be under six months of age. Characters should not exceed fourteen years of age.
011. Characters must age in the season they were born in. Say, you create your character and they were born in spring. When spring rolls around in the current in-character year, you will be expected to age your character up one whole year.
( role-playing )
001. All in-character posts should be no shorter than two hundred words. This isn't a hard limit to reach, and it gives someone enough to reply too.
002. Nothing is more annoying than when someone posts a 'work-in-progress' post, claiming that they're going to finish it after dinner or something. Why? Because, chances are that they'll never get to it. Please try to avoid these types of posts.
003. POV ( point of view ) isn't too important. The general default is third person, past tense. At all points you should use past tense, present and future tense get confusing to many people. First or third person only, and please don't switch back and forth. Chose one, and stick to it.
004. Extremely graphic violence, and intense swearing are permitted. Graphic mating and birthing how ever, are not. If you really want to write those out, take it over your email. Not, the personal messages on the site, because such content can get our site banned. If your thread has mature content in it, please place a 'M' in the title, to warn others of graphic material. If a certain post does, place a warning above the actual content of the post.
005. No killing or breeding with someone's character with out permission from the player. If you are found doing this, the posts will be deleted with out waring.
006. Even if you do not have a posting table, every post ( even out of character posts. ) must be block quoted at least once. Tables must be centered, and remember, DO NOT place images with in blockquotes. It makes the board stretch.
007. Remember, keep things realistic!
( chat box )
001. To be blunt, don't be a douche. Have a problem with someone? Either send them a personal message, or send a staff member one explaining the situation.
002. No drama. No drama. No drama. Simple? Okay.
003. No offensive discussions/statements.
004. Be relaxed; it's what the chat box is there for. Have fun with it.
005. No impersonating.
Staff reserve the right to update and alter the rules as necessary. Check back often. The rules were last updated 7/10/2013.
