COMPLETE APPEARANCE:
Almost immediately, it is clear that Cassius is a canine who knows how to take care of himself. Despite striking out on his own, he has not lost much in terms of muscle. He is no small creature, with thick bones supporting his rather hefty mass. Cassius is not sensitive about his size, though it does indeed keep him from escalating quickly or moving sharply. Because of this, he has found a way to trap his prey instead of trying to race after it and outmaneuver it. Not only has this little trick kept Cassius from running very much, it has also helped him maintain his weight. He is a fairly tall male, though not necessarily anything to brag about.
Along with a large size, there is yet another thing that sticks out about him. He has a light, very identifiable coat. From his mother's Japanese Akita lines, Cassius has found himself attaining a triple-layer, thick coat more suitable for the colder weather. The guard hairs are stiff, straight, and coarse to the touch. Surprisingly, even his undercoat can sometimes come out rougher than one would expect. His undercoat is comprised of wavy hairs that fall out twice a year when he blows his coat. The triple-layer coat consists of a top coat, a middle layer, and an undercoat. This simply means that Cassius's coat itself is thicker and 'plushier' than most other dogs. Cassius was born with heterochromia, giving him one blue eye, and one eye that is about one-third blue, and two-thirds brown.

PERSONALITY:
TRAITS: Confident. Controlling. Stand-offish. Militant. Respectful/Demands respect. Values loyalty. Decisive. Emotionally stable. Doesn't believe in love. Around those he cares deeply for, he is playful, relaxed, protective, and affectionate.
COMPLETE PERSONALITY:
confident
He holds himself with pride, a tall stance lacking in any doubt or confusion. Cassius rarely concerns himself with challenges or threats, often seeing them as not worth his time. He will prove himself if he truly has to. He lets his actions do his talking for him, having come to find that it is the weakest dog with the loudest bark. He performs tasks efficiently and quickly, wasting little time with arguing or second-guessing. Cassius stands behind his words, and anything he does is done with confidence.
controlling
Known as the "fun police" with his pups and back when he was with his pack, Cassius has little patience for arguing and roughhousing. Play is fine, and he understands that it's important for a pack to play, but he tends to micromanage play, keeping it relatively safe and ensuring no one is injured. Aside from play, Cassius likes to be in control of other situations and even many resources, though food is one thing he allows his pups to have freely, even letting them eat first until they're full.
stand-offish
When around strangers or dogs he has only met on occasion, it's easy to say that Cassius is rude and cold. He doesn't speak much, and he maintains a stoic, serious expression. While he partakes in jokes with those he knows quite well, it's easy for him to mistake jokes as something serious when it comes to strangers. He doesn't really know how to be friendly or polite, as manners were never instilled in him. He can sometimes come across as suspicious, often observing those around him in a quiet, contemplative manner, as if he's calculating what they will do next. Adding to this, he tends to be quite stiff, as if he's always ready to react.
militant
Cassius has a difficult time really 'letting loose' and letting himself relax. He tends to bark out orders, and always expects them to be followed quickly and immediately. He likes order and structure, and everything with him is often very scheduled. Everyone has a job they're supposed to do, and he likes for the jobs to be done quickly and efficiently. He follows his own schedule to a T, and when his schedule is changed, it can make him snappy and irritable.
respectful/demands respect
While he's not always entirely respectful to those he doesn't believe deserve it, Cassius is generally respectful to dogs he meets. Despite his cold exterior, one should be able to notice that he does not make snide remarks, and he does not attack unless necessary. Although he can appear cautious and paranoid, Cassius is one to give others the benefit of the doubt. On the flip side, however, he is also a creature who becomes upset when respect is not returned to him. Even from those of a higher rank, Cassius requires any information to be given to him in a respectful manner. If he feels disrespected, it is not unusual for him to simply blow the other dog off, ignoring the command.
values loyalty
Although you could say he abandoned his pack, and was therefore disloyal, there will always be a part of Cassius with the pack, and he will always be ready to defend it. Loyalty is a must with him. If you decide you want to become his companion or friend, you must make sure you can prove your loyalty. Cassius himself is a very loyal dog, even to a fault. It doesn't matter to him what his pack or companion did, he will defend them to the end.
decisive
Cassius doesn't waste very much time on pros and cons. Obviously, he will consider each option carefully, but he doesn't spend a lot of time on it. His mind works very quickly when debating on his choices, and he can make a split-second decision quite easily and almost without much thought. Once he makes a decision, however, it's difficult for him to admit he was wrong. He follows his decision with confidence, even if it is wrong.
emotionally stable
Very in control of his emotions, Cassius doesn't let very many things get to him. He knows how to let things roll off his back, especially if they are false and mean little to him. He's capable of releasing his emotions in a positive fashion, and though it often seems as if he's bottling them up, Cassius is simply very good and turning negative emotions into positive ones. It helps that he doesn't linger on anything for too long, or let anything really get to him. It's arguable that his history of killing and fighting will come back to bite him in the ass, but for now, Cassius has been able to take everything in stride.
doesn't believe in love
Due to the way he was raised, Cassius truly does not believe that any two canines can be in love with one another. He doesn't think that that emotion even exists. He believes mating is purely for procreation, and believes that dogs should only find mates when they plan to produce offspring. Cassius himself has not produced any offspring other than his three with Scar, and he feels he likely will not do it again. Because of this belief, he doesn't think ill of males and females being promiscuous. In fact, he encourages it.
protective
When he becomes attached to someone, he becomes very protective. Cassius does not like seeing the ones he loves harmed in any way, whether it be physical or emotional, and this is one way to easily get under his skin and provoke him into a fight. Even simply speaking ill of him will set him on edge and raise his hackles, and he's been known to bare his fangs at anyone who threatens his children.
playful
Although serious most of the time, there are rare occasions when Cassius feels playful. These times particularly happen after a meal, when he's full and has little to worry about. He engages his pups in a games of wrestling, chasing, tag, and even tug with pieces of meat. When he engages in play, he allows for roughhousing, mostly because he himself can get rough. When play time is over, however, Cassius expects the play to end - at least with him. Although he can get rough, he's quick to stop and apologize if he does injure the canine he's playing with.
relaxed
When it's just him and his pups, Cassius knows how to relax. He tends to smile more, and generally feels lighter and acts happier. Concerns for the day are often put to rest, especially when everybody is nice and full and no one is going hungry. These are the times when he does allow roughhousing to slide by, and when he's known to join in any games that are being played. His pups are likely the only ones who will see that he isn't so serious all the time.
affectionate
Again with only his pups and pack, Cassius absolutely adores physical touch. When he and his pups are getting ready for bed, he's known to gently groom them until they fall asleep, and then he, himself, will sleep. Cassius is a surprisingly physical canine, feeling most comfortable with surrounded by his children. When times are great, he'll even rub against them in a catlike manner, which usually ends in a game of chase.

COMPLETE HISTORY:
Around the time when humans first began dying, several packs were formed in an already-evacuated city. These packs attempted to come together in peace, but it was soon realized that that was simply not possible. Food shortages were common, and they caused many a canine to fall ill and spread disease. The leaders of each of these packs eventually came to an agreement. They would hold what they called The Examinations, a place where only the strongest of dogs could come out on top. The losers were killed, if they didn't die in the Ring. They used this to not only keep numbers low, but also to maintain balance amongst the packs. Generally, the pack with the most numbers was seen as the strongest. It was decided that each pack would place a maximum of six dogs into the Ring and a minimum of two. The dogs would fight one-on-one. If one pack placed more dogs than the other packs, the dogs from the first fights would be used. So, some dogs were forced to fight more than once - unless, of course, they were seriously injured.
Julius Caesar and Calpurnia were the fifth generation of fighters. Their pack had survived many generations before, even back to the time when humans were still alive and the pack was much smaller and composed of human-owned dogs. These dogs prided themselves in their knowledge of the human language, and this knowledge was passed down to their pups, often named after human dramas. Originally, they tried to keep members to only purebreds, but eventually, that proved to fail. Still, they only members allowed were canines that humans would have called 'Nordic' breeds or Nordic type dogs. Leader status was decided based on bloodlines, popularity, intelligence, and number of fights. Gender did not play a role in the decision, though it was rare for females to become leaders due to the fact that most of them became Denmothers.
It was also not unusual for males and females alike to mate outside the pack, and was in fact encouraged, so long as their chosen partner was a Nordic type dog.
JC and Calpurnia belonged to the same pack, as did most of the females JC courted. His mates were often chosen based on temperament and fighting abilities, just as Calpurnia was. She was an unusual girl, who chose to fight over mating until JC turned his eye on her. It was a boring several months for the lady, who was often training when she wasn't fighting. To say she was upset, however, would be inaccurate. When her pups were born, there was no mother anywhere more proud than she was.
As was the usual protocol, all five pups were trained in the ways of battle from the day they were four months old. When the pups were about two years old, they were each placed in the Ring to test themselves out. Cassius's only sister, Portia, was killed, as was one of his brothers, Casca. Cicero, Octavius, and Cassius came out alive, but changed after having killed another canine. Cassius eventually learned how to block it out, how to block out the final moments when he could feel the fading heart beat, how to block out the screaming and the wailing of his fallen opponent's family. It was not an easy task, but it was one that he knew he had to do.
Cassius was placed in the Ring each year after his first battle, earning him a total of four battles. After his fourth one, JC told him to pick a mate, and he did just as JC asked. She was a quiet girl, scarred up and a couple years older than Cassius. She went by the name Scar. After his pups were born, something inside of Cassius finally cracked. He waited until they were old enough and took them from the pack, leading them away from the horrors. He kept it all a secret from them, giving them false truths. He simply told them that the life with the pack was not for them, and he didn't want them to stay there.
Cassius and his pups roamed the streets for another year, until he caught wind of a town recently broken up. He's led his pups to Islara, where he hopes to live out his remaining years with his pups.
