Taliesin padded through the trees, the dappled shade cooling his back alternately as he made his way towards the river. He didn’t really have any reason for heading that way, other than perhaps taking a quick dip in the water, because it was a hell of a hot day out, and he was definitely not going to kill himself with trying to move with the shade as the day passed. He had too much lethargy to do that. He liked lazing away the hot days, but then again, the cold days were particularly bad for him too. Since he was used to this heat, it was where he was at his prime, where other canines with their thicker coats suffered and starved, but when winter rolled around? Well, he was the one at a disadvantage. His last winter had been passed away holed up in an abandoned building, hunting the mice in the building or venturing out on warmer days to rustle up something.
Not an easy life, honestly. But he was used to it, had adjusted as his general species was so good at doing, and had gone on. Things hadn’t been easy since the death of his mate and his children, and he found himself wandering aimlessly, without any kind of purpose whatsoever. At least, when he’d lost his mate was when it had started. Sure, sure, give him any kind of flack you wished, because yes, his mate had been a male, oh yeah, definitely a male, and he never regretted his preference towards men rather than women. Females spread his bloodline, males were the ones that kept his soul alive, as cruddy as that sounded. Being with his mate had made him feel alive, had given his heart a reason to beat, and had given him multiple reasons to rise in the morning.
If only his mate had survived, then they would have been able to perhaps take their own pups in, yes, they wouldn’t be by their own blood, but he wouldn’t have cared. As long as he’d had a family, he would be happy. Tal huffed out a breath, ears flicking to discourage pesky flies from landing once again upon them, they did so anyways, and saw the river come into view, along with it’s infamous natural bridge. The fallen tree had ironically, coincidentally landed upon such an angle that it spanned the width of the river and therefore made it passable to the other side. The AWD didn’t intend on crossing over, not really, he just planned on a nice cool, relatively cool, dip in the water, and then maybe hang out on the bridge itself.
He’d just done the former when he heard approaching pawsteps, and took care to make no indication of knowing someone else was nearby. Instead the male leapt up onto the bank and then padded out onto the tree, sprawling himself across it’s expanse, paws hanging over one side in a lazy way as he gazed unblinkingly towards the pawsteps’ source.
x-- sooo....hope this works ^^
